George Washington Ball Pictures

I got a few pictures of myself in my new 1760's embroidered sacque a couple of weeks ago. I was very happy with how the dress came out and also very pleased with how my hair came out. I have a lot of trouble with hair, but this came out really well. Actually, the set behaved itself very nicely for several days.





















I had a wonderful time at the ball. I danced most of the dances, I had a good time with friends, and I got lots of compliments on my dress.

You look wonderful! That sacque is perfect and your tete de mouton is impressive. What did you do with the back of your hair, I can't quite tell? Is it a braided chignon?

Thank you. The back is just sort of smoothed and twisted up to a (small) mass behind the front curls.

You look lovely! How did you do your hair? There was one year I did a very vintage set, and amazingly it was super helpful for all of the costumes I had planned for that weekend.

Thank you. I set it all over in 1" pin curls, rolling up on the sides and top. I don't remember which direction I rolled the back. Then I sort of followed the instructions for the "Madame de Pompadour" in Kendra VanCleave's book but with bigger curls and no braids in back.

So pretty! That fabric really is perfect for 18thc, so light and flowery. And hooray for a good ball - much as one loves the people one's with, a pretty dress at a crappy ball is just not quite as much fun! ;)

So beautiful! It's great that your hair worked out so well. Also, the sacque looks fantastic with the skirts tucked up like that.

Thank you. Tucking my skirts up was the only practical way I could find to dance. (It helps that I've seen it being done in period images.)
Silk being slick, though, I had to pin it in place where I pulled it through the pocket slits!
