Big Step Forward

I made a big step forward on the 1930's sweater that I've been working on for months. I finished the knitting on it last night. Now I just have to finish blocking it, weave in the ends, and sew it together.

This pattern was not great. It had that feel that you occasionally get from old patterns that someone made the sample garment and then wrote down what they thought they did and no one really tried it out or looked closely at the resulting pattern to make sure it would be easy to follow. Here's hoping it turns out well when made up.

That does not sound like a good way to make a pattern. Needed testers!

Quite! By the 1930's patterns are generally pretty good, but this one was not. I wish I knew what the original source was so that I'd be able to avoid it in the future. I do wish people who sell reprints of original patterns would give the original source too. Some do, some don't.

Ah yes, the "make this in the usual way" instructions that skip important steps.

This was more like "cast off three stitches in the next three rows and then one stitch in each of the next four" for shaping the armscye. Like...one side should be larger than the other?
