A long weekend with a good deal of travel is good for needlework projects.

I made the little laundry cross-stitch and all the buttons for my 1919 cape sweater. I started the first of the Christmas ornaments for the year.

Weekend Projects - 3/3/25

[personal profile] marianme already posted about our weekend here: https://marianme.dreamwidth.org/459361.html. I had a grand time. The travel was fairly smooth, and everything went pretty well the whole weekend. I didn't take pictures, but that's the norm for me. I'll refer you to Kim's pictures here: https://flickr.com/photos/7181690@N03/albums/72177720324115022/

It's the first time I've been to the ball in five years, and it was so nice to be back. I danced everything except the Minuet for lack of a partner and "Ely Waltz," which is a circle mixer. I'm not very fond of circle mixers, and they're a very inefficient use of the floor space. There were enough dancers to be a bit tight around the edge of the floor, but of course the whole center of the floor is empty. I suppose you could set up two sets in concentric circles, but I've never seen anyone do it. I wore my embroidered 1800's dress again, and it was quite nice to dance in.

I got a few pictures of myself in my new 1760's embroidered sacque a couple of weeks ago. I was very happy with how the dress came out and also very pleased with how my hair came out. I have a lot of trouble with hair, but this came out really well. Actually, the set behaved itself very nicely for several days.

I had a wonderful time at the ball. I danced most of the dances, I had a good time with friends, and I got lots of compliments on my dress.

I went to the second annual Old Salem 18th century ball Saturday night. It was really nice. It wasn't as large as the Williamsburg or Richmond balls, but it didn't suffer by comparison. I got to dance every dance, which always makes me happy, though it meant I didn't get any pictures. Never even took my camera out of my bag. I saw several people I knew from other balls that I've been to, and since none of my friends came, I spent more time talking to some of them.

I didn't get any pictures, but I wore my copper 1825-ish dress that I made for Dress U. I got lots of compliments, and some other people wanted my picture, which is always a good feeling.

Next year they're possibly going to have a masked ball, which is intriguing. After having such a good time this year, I'm penciling it in on my calendar!

I finally sent in my registration for the Jefferson Ball in November. I feel like I've put it off quite a long time, but I see in my checkbook that I paid for last year's ball on 10/6 so maybe I'm a little more timely than I feel like I am.

I think I'm going to wear the 1750's print sacque, though I'm considering the 1770's rust taffeta. I really shouldn't worry about it just yet because I still need to figure out what I'm wearing to the ball in Old Salem this weekend! It's billed as an 18th century ball, but I really want to wear my copper 1820's dress since I didn't get to wear it to the James Monroe ball this summer. (As far as I can tell, there was no James Monroe ball this summer.) The invitation says "Colonial, Regency or evening clothing please." 1825 isn't exactly Regency, but it's close enough, right?

So do I wear the stuff from the right century, or do I wear the stuff I really want to wear?
