I finally remembered to take pictures of my early Victorian shoes.

Early Victorian Shoes

They're American Duchess Brontes (clearance!) that I dyed green. The dying turned out to be much easier than I had anticipated. It just took me weeks to get around to taking pictures. As others have mentioned, it is hard to take good pictures of your own feet, but I think I managed to get something acceptable. It's nice that the ribbons around the ankles slightly mask the bagginess of the stockings, which are an 1849 pattern.

If I don't make anything else for the San Jacinto battle in April, at least I'll have underwear and be shod!

They turned out beautifully! And I am in awe of your stocking-wizardry. :)

Thank you. Stockings are nice because they are completely mindless knitting. You only have to pay attention at one point in a row - is it an even row or an odd row for the seam stitch, and is it a decreasing row? Both happen within a couple stitches of each other.

You are making me feel brave! What size needles and weight thread did you use to get this fine of a result?

This is lace-weight wool on 0000 needles. The Ravelry page has the details: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/MCBurbage/a-full-sized-stocking-with-widening-for-the-calf. I've heard you shouldn't use merino wool for stockings, that it's not durable enough, but I don't wear them that often. You can knit quilting thread into the heels to make them more durable, though I didn't on these. My current stocking project is heavier sheep's wool so I'll have to see how the two compare once I'm done.

Good luck, and I'm glad you're going to try it.

They came out very vibrantly. I'm glad 1830's dresses are a little short so they can be seen some.

Thank you. Stockings are good because you can do them while you're reading, particularly when you aren't that interested in reading whatever it is you have to read.
