The ship pinball came out very prettily, and I really like the coral ribbon with the green. It's my fourth pinball, but there will be a break before I do any more pinball knitting. I think I want to make a silk miser's purse next, though I really should get further on the petticoat lace before I go ordering anything else. That's the best way to reduce temptation.

18th Century Ship Pinball

18th Century Pinball Back

For those who like Ravelry pages, the page for this pinball is here.

This is my fourth pinball, but there will be a break before I do any more pinball knitting. I think I want to make a silk miser's purse next, though I really should get further on the petticoat lace before I go ordering anything else. That's the best way to reduce temptation. And I've got scads of yarn (9 balls!) left over from my petticoat due to a serious mistake when gauging it. I really need to find something to do with it. Anyone have any suggestions for what to do with 450g of blue sport-weight 100% wool? I've got 100g of cream sport-weight yarn left over from my 1907 sweater that I could use with it.

Yay! Thank you so much! I still have it out so I can see it and maybe play with it. Someday I really should put some pins in it.

I think some kind of a hood would be really nice with the blue wool.

I'm so glad you like it. After you wrote that you wanted one last week, I really wanted to write back that I'd make you anything you wanted as long as it was a ship on a green ground. I'm so glad you came down so I could give it to you in person.

I like the hood idea. Have you any suggestions for patterns?

Haha, that's too funny! :D I'm so glad it worked out.

The one that Katherine suggested was what I had in mind. It looks very cozy and good for that weight. Garter stitch is easy but can be dull; I wonder how it would look in seed stitch.

I don't necessarily mind dull. I like to have something mindless to knit while I'm reading. That's part of why I like making stockings, though I'm not sure the openwork stockings I'm planning will work so well that way.

Seed stitch/moss stitch would probably look quite nice, but I find it obnoxious to knit. I'll do the garter stitch, which is so easy to do blind. The only bad thing is that my size 10 needles are only 10" needles so the 220 stitches barely fit on them.

Beautiful! And great color combination!

The Godey's 1857 or 1858 opera hood uses sport weight wool. I don't remember the exact amount.

Thank you.

Is that the hood you made recently? I'm sure I have enough for a hood.

I had kind of been hoping for something with more of a pattern, but as I'm looking at various hood patterns, it looks like the few that are for sport weight yarns are plain. More interesting things seem to generally have smaller yarns, which makes sense when you think about the scale of a hood. Something in garter stitch is probably good for me to do since I can do it blind while reading.

It is really simple, but I did really enjoy working on it. Sometimes thoughtless projects are very satisfying!

Mindless is good since I have to count practically every row on the lace to make sure I haven't goofed. I cast it on, and it barely fits on 10" needles, which would be the length I'd have in size 10.

What, if anything, did you do for the crocheted lace at the back of the neck?

I've gone through all the projects on Ravelry, and no one has mentioned the lace except on the original blog post that the pattern links to where she says she made two crocheted chains. Since I don't crochet, I'm debating what I want to do. I guess I could do a knitted lace...

I Don't Crochet. Except for that painful little bit on the Norwegian cap. I just left it plain and it was fine :)

I Don't Crochet either. I can't tell what's a stitch and what's not. I'm sure I've seen some 1840's or 1850's knit lace patterns so I think I'll find a small one of them to do.

I really liked that one, too! I'd be tempted to do it myself.
