three girls’ skirts (no pictures, but they're the same as the rock star skirts but in lavender, turquoise, and brown satin)

UFO’s as of the New Year (in the order begun):

1890’s tucked petticoat with hand-knit lace – the lace is half finished. I started making up the petticoat body, but I might replace it with something nicer since I'm looking at spending a hundred hours knitting lace.

1936 sweater with turreted collar – the main body pieces are finished. Now it needs pressing, assembly, and a section of ribbing around the neck since I’m not planning to make the turreted collar. If this were for a 1930’s costume, I’d probably do the collar, but since I’m making this for regular wear, I don’t want quite such a dated feature. The neck treatment I'm going to use is the same as that on another sweater pattern from the same period.

1870 Le Baiser dress – the underskirt is finished but for a band of trim around the hem and a couple of eyes. The dress itself hasn’t even been started, though the pattern for the 1868 green dress will be a good starting point.

What a productive year! You're so thorough with all of your ensembles. All that work really shows in the finished product with all the details just right.

Thank you very much. I try to get a period look, and you certainly can't skimp on underwear. And knitted accessories are just fun. Now to learn to do something more with hair...

You did such fantastic work last year! Your knitting in particular just blows me out of the water - your stitches all look sooo tiny!

Thank you. I like small needles. The size 3's I've been using for the sweater lately are about as large as I really feel the urge to go. It amuses me so much when people talk about not wanting to do the fingering weight sweaters of the 1940's and before because the yarn is so small when I don't want to go larger than fingering weight and even wonder if it looks too thick for a sweater.

Thank you. I had more free time than usual this year, at least until the last couple of months, which translated into finally making some of the things I've had planned for a bit.

You made so many nice things! I particularly like all your historic knitting. I think I need to make a pinball now!

Thank you. I have a really hard time getting worked up about any knitting pattern written after about 1950, and in my location, I just don't need a lot of heavy sweaters or afghans. Be careful with pinballs; they're addictive! They're great after you get used to knitting thread with 6-0 needles. Let me know if you want me to send you any of the charts I've got.

Thank you very much! I had more free time this year than usual, and I took what advantage of it I could. I was so glad to make some of the things that I planned and purchased for back in Virginia. It's good to work through some of the stash.
