I finished the swan pinball. It's made the same as the other ones, but this time I used stranded embroidery thread instead of a spool of sewing thread. It really doesn't seem much different, but the joins in the thread were annoying. I'll still probably use the embroidery thread since it has more colors available, but if I can find sewing thread in the right color, I'll probably use it.

Wow! That looks like a really complicated little thing to make! It's beautiful!

It's really not very complicated. After the knitting is finished, it takes maybe an hour to put together. It's just the knitting that is time-consuming, but it's definitely worth it. They're really fun to make. There's one with a ship that I really want to do...

That is very pretty. Is it a period design?

I think so. It comes from Erica Uten's book on Quaker pinballs, and I think all the patterns in it are from period samples, though I think they do extend into the early 19th century.

Lovely! Is the ship one in it? I like ships! And birds. They're as close as I can get to airplanes for period stuff. ;)

The ship is one that knit1805 on Ravelry had found and charted and started, though I don't think she's ever posted about finishing it. I love it, but the question is, would it be too weird to have a ship on a green ground? The original is brown on a white ground, if I recall correctly. I'd like to do it white on a green ground, but would that be weird?

Okay, I checked - it's white on a brown ground. Here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/544865254895155286/

I like a ship on a green ground... Sounds rather Tolkien-ish. ;)

I checked the source of the swan pattern, and it's not Erica Uten's book. It's a book of motifs from the Ackworth school. http://www.needleprintsociety.com/Ackbook.html
