Vintage knitting is always an adventure.

The sweater I'm working on right now has absolutely no instructions on making it up. It's called a "sweater coat" so it sounds like it should open down the front, but I'm not sure I want to do that. I might make it a pullover because I don't really want to put a bunch of snaps or hooks and eyes on it, and it would only button from the waist down. I'm also not sure it has the room at the hips not to pull at the buttons.

Sweater coat sounds awesome. If the buttons would pull, would the pullover fall over the hips or end up higher like a hoodie with ribbing?

The knitting is pretty lightweight, and I'm afraid that under even the least strain - like the strain of motion - they would pull. I realized as I was actually assembling the thing that sewing the front shut would solve other problems so I went for it. Now I just need to buy buttons.
