I'm fairly well along in the lace for my 1887 nightdress case now so I thought I should block at least part of it to figure out just how much more I need to knit. Because the lace has a built-in fullness to it, I can only block a couple of feet at a time without getting into a second layer.

Yes, the ironing board cover is stained, but part of that is just that it's wet from damping the lace for blocking. It's also funny how water leaves behind brown marks on the cover, even distilled water.
Anyway, it looks like I only need about one more foot of lace to finish. Since it's such a portable project, I decided to stop working on it at home and just work on it when out.
Last night I found this shawl on Ravelry, and I decided to start it today.

I had been planning to make a c. 1870 neck handkerchief from Beeton's Book of Needlework with the yarn, but when I tried out that pattern, I didn't like it at all. I had started looking for other shawl patterns and hadn't quite decided until I saw this one. I hope I can do it justice. I had size 3 DPN's, but it's going to outgrow them rapidly so I'll need to get a circular needle. I'll probably also need to buy more yarn because this will be bigger than the fichu thing I originally bought yarn for, but I'll go through the two balls I have before ordering more so that I can have a better idea of how much more I'll need.
