Gauging

I tried the 1892 lace pattern again with size 000 needles, and after blocking, I like it better. Ignoring the dropped stitch that ran, how does it look?



There's nothing to show how big it is in the picture, but the knitting needle is 1.5mm in diameter, if that helps.

Here's the old 4-0 gauge for comparison.



I also gauged my next sizeable knitting project. The pattern calls for size 4 needles and a 7 st/in gauge, but size 3 gave me gauge. I was actually good and knit a 3"x5" swatch with each of the two needle sizes. Now, I am apparently incapable of measuring knitting properly so it may or may not come out, but I'm hoping that virtue will be rewarded so that my sweater comes out reasonably. I'll probably cast that project on tomorrow while listening to my daughters read.

Definitely better. When I first tried the 000's, I thought the garter stitch parts looked bad, but with it blocked, I think it turned out alright.

The triple-0's gives a much better definition of the pattern. Looks great!

It's definitely better than the last time. I didn't work too hard at blocking it so it'll probably look even a little better than this. Maybe a petticoat with lace round the hem is in my future after all.

Much better! I've never been fond of solid-looking laces, so the 0000 didn't work for me; but the 000 is much prettier.

Yeah, lace is supposed to be light and airy so I was really disappointed with the 4-0, but the 3-0 is better. I'm glad to get other opinions that it's decent too. I'll probably start it for real after I finish the pinball I'm working on. And a bonus is that 000 needles are probably big enough to knit in the car/bus with while 0000 probably are not (4-0 plain, yes, patterned, no).
