My weekly update is a bit random this week.

I finished knitting and blocking and sewing together my new cable-knit cardigan. I still need to sew on the buttons, but I don't have all of them yet. Unfortunately, in the blocking the sleeves really stretched. I like the way the stitch looks better now, but the sleeves are several inches too long; they hang past my fingertips. I'm debating whether to rip them out of the sweater, ravel them back to a reasonable length and reknit the sleeve heads. I expect I'll end up doing it, but I'm unable to work myself up to it just yet. It would only take one evening per sleeve, but ripping them out is too sad to deal with at the moment.

Then I made four pair of flannel pajama pants for my daughters. The last batch I made two or three years ago were a few inches too short at this point. These are a vast improvement, and they love them.

I received a shipping notice on my 17th century waistcoat yarn over a week ago, but I haven't received it yet. Tracking says the post office hasn't received it yet either, which is slightly concerning. I'll call in a few days if I don't receive it and the tracking doesn't get updated.

Since I was avoiding deciding what to do about my sweater, I started a pair of knitted beaded cuffs from an issue of "Weldon's Practical Knitter" from 1896. I knit the first one and ran out of beads halfway through stringing the beads for the second one. I ordered more yesterday, but they're not expected to arrive for a couple of weeks. I actually started them while over at my parents' house so I didn't have my needle size conversion chart on me and just looked one up on the internet. That one showed size 16 being equivalent to size 0, but when I looked at my chart this morning for something else, mine shows size 16 being between sizes 00 and 000. Since the cuff ended up having plenty of ease, I'm debating starting the second one with 00 and see how I like it. It's a small enough project that it wouldn't be too depressing to reknit the first one - the whole cuff was less than 150 rows at 50 stitches to the row. I did it in about three days.

Fiddling about last night, I started knitting one of the quilt squares from another issue of "Weldon's Practial Knitter." I think this one is from 1886. I knit one square, and a full block takes four squares. I am not planning to knit a full quilt. I just thought it would be fun to do one or two of the quilt square patterns and make them into potholders or coasters or something. Besides, based on what I knit last night, I only have enough yarn to make about four blocks, which is not nearly enough for even a lap quilt.

Now that I've finished (or nearly finished) my cable-knit cardigan, I need a new knitting project for work so I went browsing for sweater patterns that take two colors of wool. I've got a good deal of the blue wool left from the 1930's bed jacket but not enough for a full sweater, but I've also got a coral pink color that goes with it nicely. I ended up buying three PDF's of 1930's knitting magazines/books/pamphlets/whatever they are. I'm going to do the Eleanor sweater from a Corticelli yarns book. The idea is to get that cast on this weekend so I can take it with me to the office on Monday.

Then I think I want to do another sewing project. I'm tentatively planning to make a pair of Edwardian combinations next and am starting to put more serious thought into a wool gauze 1870's dress. We'll see about that.
