Copy Cat

I feel like such a copy cat right now.

When I saw Natalie's robe volante at Costume College a couple of years ago, I wanted one but knew I didn't want to pay for silk to do it so I put it out of my head. Then I saw Lauren of American Duchess' post talking about making one, and it brought it back into my head. That afternoon I realized that I had suitable fabric for it. So I made one last month.

Years ago I poked around a bunch of 1930's knitted swimsuit patterns and really wanted to make one. I knew I had nowhere to wear one to so I kind of laid it aside as one of those things that would be nice to make some day but might never happen. Then [personal profile] koshka_the_cat started talking about making one and even started knitting it, and that brought it back into my head. I have two in-progress knitting projects and didn't need to start another one, but it made me kind of look around at patterns for awhile. I found one I liked, and I cast it on over the weekend.

At least the other things I'm making - the shawl, the Christmas stocking, the sweater, and the springed stays - aren't so copy cat. (While the springed stays are based on some Katherine made, they don't feel like I'm being weird since she made them years ago.)

There's nothing wrong with being inspired! I'm excited to see your bathing suit. You'll probably finish first :)

And there seems to be waves of interest in eras and styles. So far, I’ve only seen someone a little miffed when their dress was copied almost exactly on purpose.

When I see people make something, it almost always makes me want to make the same kind of thing. Sounds like you have some fun projects in the works! I look forward to seeing how they go.
