2020 was an odd year, no doubt. I was lucky that I was able to go to the George Washington Ball in Williamsburg the week before everything spiraled into chaos. With nothing else going on, I got a lot more time for needlework than usual this year, and by summer I realized I was churning stuff out way too fast. I started working on things that take a lot more time to get a finished product like cross-stitching and knitting.

I made two things this year that I really love – an 18th century domino and a Victorian shawl. I'm happy with a lot of my other stuff, but those are just some of the coolest things I’ve ever made.

I finally took pictures of the linen skirt I made a couple of months ago.

1912 waist and skirt

It's the Wearing History 1912 skirt pattern (http://wearinghistory.clothing/1912-pleated-skirt-pattern-waist-26-1910s-edwardian/). It's one of the Archive Couture patterns, and it happened to come in my size. The mockup fit with no alterations I read the instructions three or four times before I started, but in the end, it wasn't bad to put together.

I was running short of fabric so I ended up piecing one of the side pieces. It occurred to me afterward that if I had done the regulation waist instead of the raised waist, that would have shortened the pieces just enough for me not to have to piece anything. I think the raised waist looks very period, though so I don't regret doing it.

The shirtwaist is also a Wearing History pattern that I made a couple of years ago. I haven't used many of her patterns yet, but I've really liked the ones I have used.

Well, I thought I was going to make a 1912 dress until I pulled out the fabric and found I barely had enough for the skirt. That's fine since I can wear it with my Wearing History lawn blouse. I can say that the skirt is going together fairly quickly.

I mocked up the Wearing History 1912 skirt last night (https://wearinghistory.clothing/1912-pleated-skirt-pattern-waist-26-1910s-edwardian/), and it fit perfectly. I only did the top 20" or so, but I thought that would be sufficient to tell me how it fits. Now to figure out the bodice...
