1887 Nightdress Case Progress
May. 24th, 2020 09:41 amI've been working on a nightdress case from a "Weldon's Practical Knitting" pattern from 1887. I don't expect to use it as a nightdress case, but I thought it would be fun for sticking stuff in when travelling for costume stuff.
So far I've finished the main panel of it and gotten about a quarter of the way through the lace edging.

The pattern called for six repeats, but it ended up about 18" wide but only 7.25" long at six repeats. 1:3 is nothing like the proportions of the Montmellick embroidery nightdress case patterns in other issues of "Weldon's Practical Needlework" so I did a few more repeats. At nine repeats, it came out to 12.5", which is about 2:3, which is in the range of the Montmellick patterns. I see no reason to think that a nightdress case's proportions or size would change with the type of needlework used for it.
