Last night was the Montgomery County Choral Society's first concert of the season. They had so much fun doing their Disney concert last year that they decided to do another one this year. They encouraged children to come in costume, and my father, who is one of their members, wanted my children to help hand out trinkets to the children who attended. They also encouraged choir members to come in costume or Disney paraphernalia. They wanted people to dress up to mingle with the audience during the dinner before the concert too so I volunteered to dress up as Elizabeth Swan from The Pirates of the Caribbean because she was the only character I could think of for whom I had a costume that would answer reasonably well. I wasn't going to make something new for this when there are more historical events to be sewing for!

So my father dressed as a pirate in my husband's pirate costume, E dressed as Sleeping Beauty, M dressed as Pocahontas, and MT dressed as Shere Khan.

I think everyone had lot of fun. The only downside was that they do the fall concert on a Tuesday so that they don't interfere with football, and we didn't get the children to bed until 9:30. I hope they're not too much of a pain today!

I wore the curtain-along sacque and my new shift. I'm not usually into the ruffle showing around the neckline, but it's the way she wore it in the movie so that's what I did. I also did the single curl down the neck, which I wouldn't have done if she hadn't had one in the movie. Still, I'm very pleased with how my hair came out. Maybe I'm starting to become moderately competent with hair-styling.

We spent good chunks of four days at Colonial Williamsburg while we were on vacation. One of those days I was in costume, but I got absolutely no pictures. In lieu of current Williamsburg pictures, you get two-year-old pictures from the last time I went to Williamsburg.

First, a picture of the dress I wore this time. You'll just have to imagine it with the proper background, but this is the only picture I have of myself in the dress. I did not wear the hat and mitts this go round.

Now for old Williamsburg pictures.

Yes, this is another "week in review" post.

Now that I've decided to finish kids' Hallowe'en costumes before getting back to my stuff, I feel that I've begun to make good progress. The little witch dress is finished except for hemming the sleeves and skirt and binding the armscyes due to a complaint about prickly organza seam allowances. The fairy costume is nearly complete - I just need to put elastic in the waist of the skirt and some trim on the "vest," if I can find something suitable. Then I'll be tackling the witch hat, which hasn't even been started except for cutting out the fabric.

I'm halfway through the waist on the first piece of the 1937 cami-knickers. They progress a little slowly, but they do progress.

Finally, cross-stitching: the top left quadrant is finished as is the lady. Now it's just a whole lot of green and a little blue left to finish the background. I remember this part from when I did it before - I got really tired of the green after awhile. This time I've been careful to work on the green off and on all through so there won't be quite such a big space that's 90% one color.

Our English country dance group demonstrated at the Wilderness Trail Festival downtown on Saturday. We danced at 11:30. It started to rain at 11:25. It didn't rain too hard, but it was enough to make the stage slick and soak my dress six inches up on the walk home. I wore my 1750's print sacque from the curtain-along last year. It was as much fun to wear as ever. The blue silk ribbons on my cap bled in the rain, but it washed out so no harm done.

It was the first wearing of my new stockings, and they were great. Even though my feet were wet, they didn't feel bad. I love wool.

We took a couple of pictures after we danced, but I didn't get any so I can't post any.

This week I actually have progress to report since I actually did some sewing. I worked on my 1868 crinoline, though it was mostly non-progress. I've got the pattern in hand (ordered on Tuesday and received on Thursday - I was impressed) and boning on order. I've traced off the pattern pieces so I'm ready to cut it out, maybe I'll be able to do that Monday night. Plus I put together the pattern pieces for the petticoat to go over it, cut it out, and have run up and felled all the seams. I'll get the waistband on it sometime this week but will have to wait until the hoop is ready to hem it.

Then I finished the knitting on my first 18th century stocking. I still need to weave in the ends, but it's a stocking. Now I'm two rows into the second one, and it looks very, very small.

Cross-stitching progresses, but there's really nothing to say about it. It's slow, very slow. And something like 58,000 stitches in the project. One does see progress a lot faster when sewing.

This morning I finally managed to put the cuffs on my print sacque. I made them in June but it took me five or six weeks to get around to pulling the old trim off and putting them on. They're better than the trim.
