She puts in so many small details of life, and it's life in 1920's and 1930's England. There are so many things that make you say - "Gee, life has changed in so many little ways."

A few examples:
Mention of needing a corkscrew to open a bottle of beer.
Having to get the blacksmith out to fix a wrecked car.
Paying 600 pounds for a house.
Description of the contents of a woman's bag on a walking tour.

There are loads more. I've read a number of other books written around the same time, notably Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh (though I think she started later,) and P.G. Wodehouse, but I don't get the same feeling of small views into a different time that I get from Dorothy Sayers. It makes for very fun reading.
