Knotted

I worked all afternoon and most of the evening Sunday knotting fringe. I finished last night. I'd estimate I spent about 15 hours to make three yards. I still need to trim it even, but I need to pin it on the dress to figure out exactly how long it needs to be. I'd like to get the foot pleating on first so that I know were the fringe falls relative to it.

It is. I think it will be worth it. I enjoyed doing it.

Thanks! I’m feeling so much closer to done with the dress now. Tonight I’ll work more on hemming the foot pleating.

Was that foot pleating attached above the hem to the outside of the skirt (so pleat and skirt hem about equidistant from floor)? Or is the skirt hem higher and the foot pleating attached at the bottom of the skirt hem giving more room for feet below?

Usually I think they’re attached below the skirt, at least by about 1880. This is more of a flounce at the hem like you see in the late 1860’s and early 1870’s. This one just happens to be pleated instead of gathered. I’ll set it so the pleating is about an inch below the skirt hem.

I probably shouldn’t call this a foot pleating. I’ll call it a pleated flounce going forward since that’s more accurate.
