Fringe

I started making the fringe. I didn't do a good job of timing it to see how long it's likely to take to finish the whole three yards, but I'm close to one yard after a few hours of work yesterday and about 45 minutes this morning.



I'm happy with how it's coming out.

I started hemming the 450" long strip of taffeta for the foot pleating yesterday too, but it's very tightly woven so my fingers tired after awhile. I'll try to strike a good balance between foot pleating and fringe.

I have five weeks. That should be plenty of time.

Wow, hand hemming the pleat trim? That’s a lot of work.

I know they machine hemmed them in the 1870's, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

That trim has got to be slow moving, but sure is looking nice.

Thanks. It’s a lace-weight silk yarn that I had leftover from my 17th century garters. They really didn’t use all that much so I had most of the 100g hank left. This fringe will use up most of what I have left, possibly even all of it.

If I didn’t already have the yarn on hand, I don’t know whether I’d have bought silk to do the fringe, but when it’s just sitting there as leftovers, it’s the perfect thing.

The cherry on top is being able to stashbust, which makes one extra pious* about finishing any project. Outstanding!

It’s been a good stash-busting project. The only thing I’ve bought for it is a spool of thread. It’s using up one fabric, most of two others, most of a ball of yarn, and another chunk of a spool of ribbon.
