I may be crazy, but my next project will be a 1921 bathing suit. That's not the crazy part. The crazy part is that I'm actually going to try to use the crochet pattern as a crochet pattern. I was contemplating translating it to a knitting pattern and then realized that there are a lot of patterns that are cute but I reject because they involve too much crochet. If I just sit down and try to do a project - and this is all single and double crochet with nothing fancy - maybe I'll get over that and be more willing to try.
My pattern doesn't include the trunks, even though the model is obviously wearing a pair so I'll use the trunks from the pattern
koshka_the_cat used for her 1921 suit. I'm also planning to make the socks. They're knit so if I start to get frustrated with the crochet, I can always work on the socks for a little while until I get over it.
I know full well that I hold a hook too tight, and that's one of the things I'm hoping to cure with this project. Until I learn, I'm thinking I'll be able to do about a row per day so it should be a project running in parallel with my other projects.
I've ordered yarn and am working on figuring out the hook size to use to make gauge so it's on the horizon. The 3.5mm hook is a little over the given gauge, the 2.25mm hook is distinctly smaller than the given gauge. The 2.75mm hook was catching partial threads a lot and driving me nuts. I think I actually have another 2.75mm hook so I'll see if the hook part is shaped any differently and try that.
ETA: I found the old 2.75mm hook. It turns out to be the one that I keep in my bag for picking up dropped stitches in knitting. The gauge came out perfectly with it. So I'll be using the suggested hook size for the pattern, which amuses me since my knitting is nearly always a size down from the suggested needle size.
