I wrapped the thread around the pom-pom binding twice. I started by doing it once, and they wouldn't slide by themselves but were easy to slide with the hand. Wrapping twice and pulling up the slack in the wraps made them so that they're hard to move by hand. They'll still slide a little because the silk cord is so slick, but they're not going anywhere by accident. The pattern says to knot the cord, but I couldn't see how to knot it with a big enough knot to keep the center of the pom-pom from being able to slide over the knot so wrapping it was.
