Swimsuit Progress
Sep. 16th, 2023 08:07 amI've gotten the two little leg sections knit for the front and joined them together. I am about halfway through knitting the combined section. That puts me about three quarters of the way through knitting the front of the shorts. I'm trying out the knit one stitch at the beginning and end of each row that
koshka_the_cat found in her pattern. It feels very odd after slipping the first stitch of the row for years. The knitting it so stiff that it's hard to fit on 14" needles so I ended up buying a circular needle yesterday. I don't love circulars, but when your garment doesn't fit, you're kind of stuck. A plus to the circular needle was that I was able to kind of try it on, pretending that I had the front and back of a leg instead of the fronts of two legs, and it should be just fine.

It rolls dreadfully so I had to pin it out to get a picture.
I have a sneaking suspicion that I will use up my first two balls of yarn on the front of the shorts. Since the skirt is a little bit longer than the shorts, that means that the eight balls of yarn I bought will probably only be enough to get to the waist on this and perhaps not quite that far. Per my usual method, I'll knit as far as I can with what I have and then order more when I have a good feel for magnitude of the deficit.
Such are the trials of vintage knitting.
