Silk v. Polyester
Sep. 12th, 2013 05:41 amHands down the silk wins. I spent most of my sewing time last night pressing seams on children's Hallowe'en costumes. Every piece of those is polyester or nylon (though I wasn't pressing the nylon and have no intention of doing so). Then I took two minutes to turn down the top edge of my silk skirt. There's just no comparison. The polyester looks at the iron and looks at you and decides to lean the way you pressed it. The silk just lies down obediently in a nice, crisp crease. It really is nice.
That being said, I'll still be buying whatever's cheap for kids' Hallowe'en costumes because, after all, they're still kids' Hallowe'en costumes. But I'm quickly becoming less and less interested in synthetics for any use - costuming or modern.
